Once the first sight words feel easy, a child is ready for a second group of everyday words: are, she, he, was, for, on and up. These words are short, which makes them harder to tell from each other, because a three-letter word has only three places to check. The page works the same way as set one: one word is printed in large letters, three words sit next to it, and the child circles the one that is exactly the same.
The wrong words are real look-alikes, so he can be mixed up with she and was with saw, and a child who checks every letter from left to right is the one who is right. Set two is a little harder than set one because the words are less familiar and the look-alikes are closer. Read each word aloud before choosing, and say it in a short sentence afterwards.
Common Core standard: RF.K.3.C
The first word is was. The choices are saw, was and wax. Look at all three letters: only was starts with w and ends with s.
Guessing from the first letter or the length of the word instead of checking every letter.
Say the word, then check each letter from left to right.
