About this worksheet

In a vote, every person gets a say, and the choice with the most votes wins. First graders see voting at school, when the class picks a pet or a game, and at home, when the family picks a movie. It is also their first look at how a community makes a fair choice. On this grade 1 worksheet each question tells about a class vote and gives the number of votes for three choices, and your child circles the choice that won.

The counts on support sheets are far apart, and on challenge sheets they are close, so the child has to compare carefully. Hold a family vote on dinner and count the hands together.

What your child will learn

  • Know that the choice with the most votes wins
  • Compare the votes for each choice
  • See why voting is a fair way to choose
  • Hold a simple class vote
