About this worksheet

A community is a place where people live, work and play together, and communities come in three common kinds. A rural community is in the countryside, with farms, fields and a lot of open space, and neighbors who live far apart. An urban community is a city, with tall buildings, busy streets, subways and lots of people close together. A suburban community is a neighborhood just outside a city, with houses, yards, parks and schools.

People in each kind of community get food, travel and have fun in different ways. Second graders may live in one kind and visit another. This worksheet gives eight clues, and the child circles which kind of community each one describes. Ask your child to describe the place where your family lives, and to say which kind it is and why.

  • Describe the community where you live
