About this worksheet

Long before European settlers arrived, Native American peoples lived across North America, and the land they lived on shaped their homes, food and ways of life. Social studies groups them into cultural areas. On the Northwest Coast, people used cedar for plank houses and canoes and ate salmon. On the Plains, many peoples followed bison and lived in tipis. In the dry Southwest, people built adobe pueblos and farmed with careful use of water.

In the Eastern Woodlands, people lived in bark longhouses and farmed corn, beans and squash. On this worksheet your child reads a clue about land, homes or food and writes the region from the word bank. Many peoples live in these regions today, and each nation has its own history and culture; this worksheet is a first look.
