About this worksheet

Everyday life changes over time. People who lived long ago washed their clothes on a washboard, lit their rooms with oil lamps and traveled in wagons pulled by horses. Today we use washing machines, electric lights and cars. On this sheet your child looks at six pictures, three of things from long ago and three of things used today, and writes which one each is, with only the picture and its name to go on.

There is no clue to read, so your child decides from what they know about how people lived. Ten pictures are shared among the six versions and three levels, so each sheet shows a different mix. Ask a grandparent what they used when they were children and compare it with what your family uses now.

What your child will learn

  • Tell objects from the past from objects used today
  • Explain how a tool or a machine changed how people live
  • Compare life long ago with life today

C3 Framework standard: D2.His.2.3-5
