Grade 2 Writing Worksheet

Look at the picture. Write three sentences about it.
At the Park
At a Birthday Party

A picture is a good place to begin writing, because everything the writer needs is in front of them. A second grader can look at a scene and ask: who is here, what are they doing, and what can I see, hear or feel? Then each answer can become a sentence. Good sentences are complete: they begin with a capital letter, tell who or what and what happened, and end with a period. Three sentences about a picture make a short piece of writing with a beginning, a middle and an end.
This worksheet shows two scenes, and for each one the child writes three sentences on the lines. There are no right sentences, but they should tell about what is in the picture. Ask your child to say the three sentences aloud before writing, and to touch the part of the picture each sentence tells about.
