How to make a handwriting worksheet
Pick a monster buddy. It cheers your child on by name at the top of the sheet.
Type one line each: your child’s name first, then spelling words or a short sentence. Short words repeat across the row.
Choose a size for your child’s age, then how they’ll practice: trace, trace then write, or copy from a model line.
Download the PDF or print. Your child colors a star at the end of each finished line.
Which size for which age
Large (1-inch lines) for preschool, pre-K and kindergarten, while children are still learning letter shapes.
Medium (about ¾-inch lines) for first and second grade, as writing gets smaller and steadier.
Small (½-inch lines) for third to fifth grade penmanship practice with longer sentences.
Tips for better penmanship practice
Keep it short: a few careful lines a day help more than a page rushed once a week.
Start every letter at the green dot and go top to bottom. Starting in the right place is most of neat handwriting.
Tall letters touch the top line, small letters reach the dashed middle line, and tails hang below the base line.
Use this week’s spelling words, so one sheet practices spelling and handwriting together.
