Kindergarten Math Worksheet

Write the number of pictures.

Counting to 10 and writing the number are the first two steps of kindergarten math, and they are different skills. A child may say one, two, three correctly while pointing at pictures, yet still skip one, count another twice, or write the number backwards. This worksheet gives one job on every line: count the pictures and write how many in the box. The pictures change from apples to stars to fish so the page never feels like a copy, and the numbers are mixed up so a child cannot guess the next answer from the last.
Watch how your child counts. Touching each picture once, sliding a finger along a row, or crossing off each one as it is counted are all good habits. When the last number is said, ask how many there are in all, then let your child write that number without counting again. Reversed digits are normal at this age; say the number and show how it starts at the top.
Common Core standard: K.CC.B.4
