About this worksheet

Severe weather is weather that can hurt people, such as tornadoes, floods, thunderstorms, blizzards, hurricanes and heat waves. Weather forecasters warn people when it is coming, and the best protection is to know what to do. In a tornado, go to the lowest floor of a strong building and stay away from windows. In a flood, move to higher ground. In a thunderstorm, go indoors.

In a blizzard, stay inside where it is warm, and in a heat wave, stay in the shade and drink water. This worksheet gives six situations, and the child circles the safest thing to do in each. Ask your child to say what the weather is and ask: what could hurt me, and where would I be safe? Talk about your own family plan afterward.
