The Sun is a star, and it is the closest one to Earth. Its light and heat reach our planet, Earth, which turns once every day. When our side of Earth faces the Sun it is day, and when it faces away it is night. The Moon travels around Earth, and it does not make its own light: it shines because the Sun lights it. As the Moon moves, we see different amounts of its bright side, which we call the phases of the Moon: the full moon, the half moon, the crescent moon and the new moon, when we cannot see it at all.
This worksheet shows four pictures of the sky, and the child writes what each one shows from the word box. Ask your child to look at the Moon tonight, draw what they see, and say which phase it is.
