A plant has parts, and each part does a job. The roots hold the plant in the soil and take in water. The stem holds the plant up and carries water to the leaves. The leaves use sunlight to make the plant's food. The flower makes the seeds, and the fruit that grows from it holds the seeds inside, so the seeds can grow into new plants.
Knowing the parts helps a second grader read about plants and care for a garden. This worksheet shows four pictures, each one a part of a plant, and the child writes the name of the part from the word box. The pictures change with each version of the sheet. Ask your child to point to each part on a real plant and say what it does.
NGSS standard: 1-LS1-1
