About this worksheet

Healthy habits are things people do every day to keep their bodies strong. Four big groups of habits matter most. Healthy food, such as fruit, vegetables and milk, gives the body energy to grow. Exercise, such as running and swimming, makes muscles and the heart strong. Sleep gives the body time to rest and repair itself. Staying clean, by washing hands and brushing teeth, keeps germs away.

Second graders are old enough to choose many of these habits for themselves. This worksheet gives ten habits, and the child circles the group that each one belongs to: healthy food, exercise, sleep or staying clean. Ask your child to think about the habit and ask: is it about what I eat, how I move, how I rest or how I keep clean?

What your child will learn

  • Name four groups of healthy habits
  • Sort a habit into the group it belongs to
  • Tell how a habit keeps the body healthy

NGSS standard: K-LS1-1

Worked example

Brushing your teeth keeps germs away from your teeth, so it belongs to staying clean.

Common mistake

Putting a habit such as washing hands under exercise, because it is something you do rather than something you eat.
