About this worksheet

Every part of a plant has a job. The roots hold the plant in the soil and take in water, the stem holds the plant up and carries water, the leaves catch sunlight to make food, the flower makes seeds, the seeds grow into new plants, and the fruit protects the seeds. On this sheet a third grader looks at a picture of a plant, printed once at the top, and reads eight sentences about what plant parts do.

In each sentence one part is missing, and your child writes its name; the parts are listed in the instruction. Building Confidence uses the clearest jobs, On Level adds the stem and the fruit, and Challenge Me uses jobs that need some thought, such as why a tomato is a fruit. Ask your child to point at each part on a real plant.
