About this worksheet

A simple machine is a tool with few or no moving parts that makes work easier by changing the size or the direction of a push or a pull. The five simple machines on this sheet are the lever, the pulley, the wedge, the screw, and the wheel and axle. They are found in a seesaw, a flagpole, an axe, a jar lid and a wagon. Your child looks at a picture of each machine and writes its name from a clue sentence; the names are listed in the instruction.

Building Confidence uses clues that describe what the machine looks like, On Level gives everyday examples, and Challenge Me describes what the machine does. Ask your child to find a simple machine at home.
