About this worksheet

Feelings are messages from the body: happy, sad, angry, scared, tired and surprised. A child who can name a feeling is better able to talk about it, ask for help and understand how a friend feels. On this page every question tells one short thing that happens to a child, such as getting a new puppy or hearing a loud noise in the dark, and shows three or four faces.

The child circles the face that shows how the child in the story feels. Read each one aloud and let the child say the feeling first. Many situations could fit more than one feeling in real life, so the ones here are clear on purpose. Talk about it afterwards: when did you feel that way? What helped?

What your child will learn

  • Name feelings: happy, sad, angry, scared, tired and surprised
  • Match a feeling to what happened
  • Read a face to tell how someone feels
  • Talk about how other people feel

C3 Framework standard: D2.Civ.3.K-2

Mia's balloon floats away. She watches it go up in the sky. A child who loses a balloon feels sad, so circle the sad face.
