About this worksheet

Manners are the small words and actions that show other people we care about them. Please asks for something kindly, thank you shows we are glad for what we were given, sorry says we know we hurt someone, and hello and goodbye begin and end a visit. Children learn manners by hearing them in real situations and then using them again and again. On this page each question tells a short thing that happens, such as a friend giving a gift or a child stepping on a toe, and gives a few words to choose from.

The child circles the words that a polite child would say. Read each situation aloud, let the child say the words first, and then find them in the choices. Practice at home: wait for the child to say please before handing over the juice.

What your child will learn

  • Say please when asking for something
  • Say thank you when given something
  • Say sorry after hurting someone
  • Say hello and goodbye
