About this worksheet
Life cycles show how living things grow, change, reproduce, and begin again. Second graders often memorize a few animal stages but miss the larger pattern: each stage follows another in a repeatable order. They may also confuse a cycle with a simple straight line that ends forever. This worksheet uses plants and animals so students compare similar cycle logic across different organisms. They identify the next stage, choose a missing stage, order a sequence, and explain why the adult stage can lead back to eggs or seeds. Cycle diagrams hide the target stage when it is the answer. Support versions use familiar bean plants and butterflies. Challenge versions add less familiar organisms while keeping the same life-cycle skill. Encourage your child to trace the arrows and say what comes next before looking at the choices.
What your child will learn
Order stages in plant and animal life cycles
Identify missing or next stages
Explain why a life cycle repeats
Compare cycles across different living things
Worked example
A butterfly changes from egg to caterpillar to chrysalis to adult butterfly, and adults can lay eggs to begin again.
Common mistake
Treating the adult stage as the final ending instead of part of a repeating cycle.
