Adding three numbers is the first time a child has to hold a running total in mind: add the first two, then add the third. It is also where the strategies pay off, because looking for two numbers that make ten or a double makes the sum much easier. On this grade 1 worksheet each line is an addition sentence with three small numbers, such as 4 + 5 + 6, and your child writes the sum on the line.
Support sheets have totals of 10 or less, standard sheets go up to 15, and challenge sheets go up to 20. Encourage your child to spot a pair that makes ten, for example 4 + 6, and add the last number to it.
Common Core standard: 1.OA.A.2
For 4 + 5 + 6, spot 4 + 6 = 10, then add 5 to get 15. Write 15.
