About this worksheet

Recognizing a capital letter means seeing a printed shape and knowing which letter it is, and naming one means going the other way: hearing the name and finding the shape. Most preschoolers sing the alphabet long before they can do either, so a child may reach the end of the song and still pause at a lone G. This worksheet works both directions. On the first two levels a single large capital sits in a box and the child finds the same shape below, with the choices deliberately drawn from letters that really are confused with it: M against N and W, E against F and L, P against R and B. The hardest level shows an empty box instead, and an adult says the letter name aloud, so the child has to recall the shape rather than copy it. Say the name before choosing, trace the straight lines and curves in the air, and come back to a stubborn letter another day rather than drilling it now.
