Grade 1 Math Worksheet

Add the pictures. Write how many in all.

Before children add numbers on paper they add groups of things, and the picture is what shows them that adding means putting groups together. On this grade 1 worksheet each line shows two groups of the same kind of object with a plus sign between them, and your child counts everything and writes how many there are in all on the line.
Support sheets use groups with a total of 10 or less, standard sheets go up to 14, and challenge sheets go up to 18. Encourage your child to count on from the bigger group rather than starting again at one, and to point at each object once.
Common Core standard: 1.OA.A.1
There are 5 apples in one group and 3 in the other. Count on from 5: 6, 7, 8. There are 8 apples in all.
Counting only one group, or counting an object twice because the groups are close together.
Count the bigger group first, then count on the other group one at a time.
